For Immediate Release

Washington Wizards All-Star Trae Young and the Trae Young Family Foundation Partner with DC CAP Scholars, Commit $50,000 to Ensure College Success for D.C. Students

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The DC College Access Program (DC CAP Scholars) today announced a partnership with the Trae Young Family Foundation, led by Washington Wizards guard and four-time NBA All-Star, Trae Young. The Foundation is joining DC CAP as a community partner with an initial $50,000 donation to support the organization's work helping D.C. public and public charter high school students get to and through college.

Since arriving in Washington in January 2026, Young has energized the city both on and off the court. This partnership reflects a commitment to his D.C. community and investing in the future of D.C.'s youth. The donation will support DC CAP's mission to eliminate the higher education achievement gap for D.C. students. This gift will fuel the organization's scholarship programs, student support and coaching services, and its core work of graduating students from college with little to no debt.

Ever since arriving in DC, I have felt nothing but love,” said Trae Young. “Washington D.C. is a big market with great people, and I want to invest in this community the same way the community has invested in me from day 1.”

Young's philanthropic track record runs deep. Through the Trae Young Family Foundation, he has championed mental health awareness, hosted youth basketball academies in his hometown of Norman, Oklahoma, and earned the NBA Cares Community Assist Award for his sustained commitment to giving back. The Foundation's mission — empowering individuals to reach their full potential by promoting mental health and wellness — aligns closely with DC CAP's vision and work helping scholars navigate socio-emotional obstacles throughout their college career.

"We are thrilled to welcome the Trae Young Family Foundation as a partner in the important work we do," said Eric Waldo, President and CEO of DC CAP. "The Foundation's dedication to empowering young people and prioritizing mental health and wellness speaks directly to the challenges our scholars face every day. This partnership will help us reach more students, raise the visibility of our mission, and move closer to our 2050 Moonshot Goal of an 80% college completion rate for D.C. students. We're grateful to Trae and his family for investing in the futures of D.C.'s young people."
