Nguyen
Nguyen immigrated to the United States in 1997 from Vietnam. Though she didn't speak one word of English upon arrival, three years later she graduated as valedictorian of her class. College, however, still seemed out of the question due to family commitments, cultural constraints and limited resources. DC-CAP worked with Nguyen and her family and she is now attending Bowdoin College on a full academic scholarship.

Jeron
Jeron's High School years were turbulent. He had lost many of his friends to incarceration or death. He attended high school day and night while working to support his family. He had never thought about college because he never believed he could go. With the strong and persistent encouragement of his DC-CAP advisor, he applied and was accepted into UDC and several community colleges. Jeron enrolled in Prince George's Community College this past fall.

Valentina
Valentina, one of seven children, was determined to go to college. Despite a GPA of 2.1 and low SAT scores, she was accepted by four out of five colleges to which she applied. Valentina now attends Virginia State University.
